Perkin Elmer

As the global leader in systems for newborn and maternal screening, PerkinElmer is recognized for its commitment to health during pregnancy. The company is collaborating with the world’s leading research teams in investigating new 1st trimester markers for adverse pregnancy outcomes such as pre-eclampsia, preterm birth and IUGR.

Acquisition of NTD Laboratories, Inc, a reference laboratory specializing in prenatal risk assessment has made PerkinElmer the premier provider of prenatal screening for Down syndrome, trisomy 18/13 and open neural tube defects in the USA.

The company’s newest biochemistry platform, DELFIA® Xpress is a random access analyzer, ideally suited for clinics as well as laboratories. Its analytical performance, combined with support for today’s preferred trisomy screening strategies helps in reducing numbers of invasive diagnostic procedures.

PerkinElmer is also developing new methods to revolutionize cytogenetics. Its Array Comparative Genomic Hybridization (aCGH) chips allow molecular karyotyping and, hence, superior detection of chromosomal abnormalities.

Following its acquisition of ViaCell, Inc., PerkinElmer is able to offer the ViaCord® product line for the collection and preservation of umbilical cord blood stem cells. Families can thus opt to preserve their baby's umbilical cord blood at the time of birth for possible future medical use in treating life-threatening diseases.
