Invasive procedures

The FMF Certificate of competence in invasive procedures is awarded to those doctors who have:

  1. Attended an FMF advanced course in Fetal Medicine.
  2. Submitted a log-book of 100 intrauterine procedures.
  3. Demonstrated their competence in carrying out one amniocentesis and one chorion villus sampling, usually in the institution of the candidate, in the presence of an FMF approved examiner. The candidate should have a good knowledge and understanding of the indications, risks and limitations of the various invasive intrauterine procedures.

Logbook of intrauterine procedures

The logbook should essentially list the patient identification number, date and gestation of the procedure, indication and laboratory result. There should be a minimum of 50 cases of chorion villus sampling. The logbook should be submitted together with a letter of recommendation from the director in charge of the service, confirming that the procedures were carried out by the candidate.
